Entry for September 11, 2006...a day we will never forget

Hi everyone,

Hard to believe it was five years ago already when the terrorist strikes stunned everyone.  I remember that day so clear as I was up visiting a good friend who was dying in the hospital.  We marked the anniversary as we gathered for prayer around our table tonight and Carmen our house leader explained a bit of what happened that day.

Well another day has passed here at L'Arche and we are gearing up for Tuesday which is Tom Krusiak's birthday...unfortunately it is calling for rain so we have to postpone his party until Friday.  We have invited his parents and a few who are significant to Tom.  We also invited Church Street and Corner House for desert.  Birthdays are so important and we celebrate these milestones with great importance and lots of fun.

We are also counting down the big barn dance on Saturday night at the woodery.  It is a barn and the these is tropical fiesta, so we are heading out to pick out Hawaiian outfits at value Village in preparation.  The barn dance is also a fundraiser for L'Arche Honduras which has much poverty.  So whatever we raise we send down to them.  Everything shuts down for this night.  People are practising their dancing, dance partners are being chosen and I understanda this is a major event each year and the core members (and everyone really) really look forward to it.

I also got some snail mail (letters) from home today and that was great.  Emails are wonderful, but the written letter is really special also.  I had tears reading them.

Wednesday morning the new assistants are gathering together for an orientation session and I made some oatmeal raisin muffins to bring along.  I am also on for prayer so I am going to bring my guitar and sing my latest composition I wrote after two days here.  It is called "Open your Heart" and was inspired by none other than one of the Core members Gordie Henry of Church Street.

Well it is late and so I guess that is the news for tonight.  Take care everyone!

Jeff
