Entry for September 9, 2006...Saturday night

Hi everyone!  I just finished typing this blog and erased the whole thing by mistake so lets see if I can capture it again.

I am finding out that L'Arche may not be one big aha moment, but rather my time here will be having celebrated the little moments or God moments as I like to call them. There were two of them today for me.

The first was after the gang (except Mike Ricci) went bowling.  I had made a couple loaves of bread in the bread machine.  Both of them looked more like pieces of the moon...craters and holes.  John Bloss came over to me and said "Me make bread!"  I thought this will be fun.  So I told John what we needed and he poured out the measurements of flour, salt, sugar and added them to the hot water, egg, margarine.  He then made the little well in the middle and poured in the yeast.  I helped him with the buttons and then he pressed start.  58 minutes later out came a perfect and I mean perfect shaped loaf of whole wheat bread.  I was ashamed of mine, but had to take a picture.  Even John laughed at me when we put them together.  I remembered that Tom Krusiak had made a loaf of bread for Kara, so the three of us had out photot taken...one moon rock in the midst of perfect loaves of bread.  What a great picture!

The second moment was on the way home from coffee tonight at the "Falcon and Firkin" with the guys from the house.  Tom and John are sprinters and were a block ahead of us.  Mike and I needed to walk slow with mike's eyesight and cane.  On the way home I was calling Tom Krusiak, "Tommy Hunter" and it got Mike Ricci laughing.  Well this might not sound like much, but with Mike not accepting his eyesight problems, we celebrate his laughter and sense of humour (and he has one).  Well he then told me he watched Tommy Hunter every Friday night.  I said 'I did too", which I did growing up. We then started talking about Red Skeleton and Mike laughed more talking about the characters he remembered.  Then we talked about Ed Sullivan, but his laughter got the loudest when I mentioned my favorite "Carole Burnett" with her and Tim Conway and Harvey Korman.  He said "and Vicky Lawrence".  I then imitated Tim Conway as the old man and he laughed louder and then said "Do you remember the time they did that funny thing, I don't remember what it was, you remember, it was so funny" (and he is laughing all the louder).  By this time he is walking faster and laughing and swaing and I am holding on to him.  Well it was like for a moment he forgot he was visually impaired and through his mind's eye, his imagination he began to see the shows he loved to watch.  It was just to wonderful to experience.

I am finding my place here in the house and the members seem to be taking to me and trusting in me.  Camilla and I are working on getting prayer going more often as part of our meal.  This year is going to be celebrated and lived in the little God moments.  Again I am so blessed!

Well Sunday morning I am taking Camilla to the airport for her weeks vacation.  Carmen our house leader will stay over this week and help out.  I hope that will give me a chance to talk with her more and get to know her more.  She is a wonderful lady!  So now I sign off for tonight! Chow!
