Date of birth: Sept. 24, 1827.

Birthplace: Delphi, New York.

U.S. Military Academy: Class of 1852 (7/43) Artillery.

Pre-war experience: Served in Florida and South Carolina, resigned from U.S. Army in 1856, lawyer, New York State Legislator, Colonel - New York State militia.

Rank: Colonel - 27th New York, Brig. General, Major General.

Major Battles and Campaigns: First Manassas - wounded (27th N.Y.); Yorktown (Brigade); Seven Days, Second Manassas, Antietam (Division, VI Corps); Chancellorsville, Gettysburg (XII Corps); capture of Atlanta (XX Corps); "March to the Sea," Carolinas Campaign, surrender of J.E. Johnston (commanded XIV and XX Corps designated the Army of Georgia).

Post-war achievements: Resigned from U.S. Army in Sept. 1865, lawyer, U.S. Congressman from New York (three terms), served on Board of Gettysburg Monument Commissioners.

Date of death: April 14, 1894.

Place of burial: Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York.
