Some more tanka
I wrote most of these between 10/23/2007 and 10/24/2007.
Cherry blossoms falls
Such a wonder to behold!
Would they rather stay?
If the flower does not fall
The fruit will never ripen.
I feel a cold wind,
Warning of winter's coming
Springtime has vanished.
But the memory of snow
Gives the iris more beauty.
Arrows swiftly fly
To strike their mark and shatter
It's for the best.
Arrows conquer generals,
Swords conquer a whole nation.
Snort! Snort! Says the bull,
"Let's run down and have a cow!
What say you, father?"
"I've a better thought, my son.
Let's walk down and have ev'ry cow."
Shall we reap in spring?
Plant seedlings in the autumn?
Or swim in winter lakes?
To act too early or too late
Is not the way of nature.
Alas, fading youth!
Autumn's first cool breeze blows through,
What is first to flee?
I once knew, but I forgot.
What was I talking about?
