Fighting in the SCA
A chronicle of my misguided attempt to become the lightest fighter in the East Kingdom.
Changes, Changes...
Had a good practice last week, and an interesting conversation which I've begun developing into a philosophy of fighting.

Well...all right, I've adopted someone else's philosophy of fighting.  I'm not sure whose (I think it's Sun Tzu).  The basic summary is this:  As long as you are acting and not reacting, you are winning.

What I've been doing is closing in and fighting at very short range.   Because I'm closing, I'm forcing my opponent to react, to do something, and (in theory) I can control the fight. E.g., I know they've got to throw a shot within a particular time frame, so I can be ready for that shot and either be prepared to block it or (less likely) do something pre-emptive that throws off their timing.

Of course, at my stage of development, I'm still losing on a rather consistent basis.  However, I suspect (because I have to...) that the physical skills will come with time and practice.
