Dargason

Dargason is an interesting dance, in part because the instructions in Playford are very ambiguous. It's traditionally done with four men facing four women in a single file line, but the instructions are for "any number". In a small group, you might want to dance two facing two.

Another interesting point about Dargason is that it's one of the two dances that I know of that already have music to it; in fact, it has two songs written for it, The Hawthorne Tree and Sedany, both of which are period. I'm working on my own filk to Dargason (The Girl Who Would Be Queen), and I'll post it as soon as I've finished.

Siding first
Three small steps to your partner's face
Then three steps back to return to place
Then single left and a single right
Then turn and onto the next in sight...

The dance goes on, through arming and a grand hay; I haven't bothered to write those verses as they're mostly the same...
