Bones found outside of fox hole - Armstrong County, PA - 3/30/02
These bones were found outside of the fox den (see Porcupine section on main page). I did some checking around and was able to identify most of the bones as belonging to a raccoon but some of them were too large for an animal that size. I'm still not completely sure what they are from but I have a few ideas in my head.Over the course of two weeks or so new bones were being pushed out of the den every other day or so but then that eventually came to a stop.  A raccoon is a large meal for a fox, even when it has pups, so it seems likely that the raccoon was scavenged.
