I quickly glare in every direction, determining      where the sound of snapped twigs came from. I  rest uneasy.
Reaching my snout downwards I pluck a fern and grind it side to side against my cheek-plates.  Conifers surround me, although I can eat them I prefer the softer vegitation.
There! The uncanny sound of twigs snapping. I wait. I'd rather know where the enemy is before running into its awaiting jaws.
How many predators surround me? It doesnt matter. I rarely get attacked by predators but I am seperated from the flock. I could be able to find them once the wind changes directions.
Quenched, I go in search of a stream. Wearily.

The smells are overwhelming. So many smells in this part of the forest that its difficult to single one out. Two particlar kinds of smells cause me to chirp and crouch down. Raptors are near. Farther away is the approaching scent of a killer, the unfamiliar scent is weak but still spells danger.
I thrust my muzzle higher into the air. A raptor is close. With my flock a raptor is hardly ever dangerous since a 'lookout' always spots it and warns us. I am alone now.
I stand and scratch the earth with my forearms creating a small nest. I lay and instantly feel alittle safer. When the bright glowing ball rises and brings day, I will have to search for the safety of my flock. I rest, ever alert and ready to speed away.
