| Wollemi pine The ancient conifer was found in 1994, before then it was considered extinct. The Wollemi�s leaves are broad based and have no mechanism for being shed individually from the tree when they have passed their usual life span. Instead the Wollemi Pine sheds whole branches giving the litter on the forest floor a very distinctive appearance. Appearance, Bark is said to resemble a "bubbly chocolate bar". The seedlings are bright lime-green while the adults are yellow-ish green. Size, The tallest is 130 feet tall and 10 feet around. Family, Araucariaceae Genus, Wollemia Fossils, Fossil representations date back as far as the Triassic (200 million years ago). |
