Liopleurodon, An enormous predator, the only Mesozoic marine reptile that comes close to matching the size of the largest modern whales. The teeth in the distinctive rosette at the front of its snout were twice as long as those of Tyrannosaurus.
Evidence, Complete skeletons and several fragments, found mostly in England and France, but also possibly in Chile.
Size, Adult lenth of about 80 feet (25 meters) with a skull an incredible 16 feet (5 meters) long. Liopleurodons weight is difficult to estimate, but it may have been 150 tons.
Diet, Any animal in the ocean.
Age, 165-150 million years ago. |
