Koolasuchus, A relic of a bygone age when amphibians ruled the world. Survived only in the polar forests because the water was too cold for crocodiles that dominated more equataorial regions. Capable of walking on land, but preferred water. Distinguished by a massively powerful skull.
Evidence, Two jaw bones found in the Strzelecki Ranges, south of Melbourne, Australia.
Size, Almost 16 feet (5 meters) long but only 1 foot (30 centimeters) high. It weighed more than half a ton, a large proportion of that being its 20 inch (50 centimeters) wide skull.
Diet, Fish, crayfish, mollusks; anything aquatic and small enough to fit in its huge mouth.
Time, Between 112 and 140 million years ago, Cretaceous period. |
