| Amargasaurus cazaui Amargasaurus was a sauropod with a strange feature; elongated cervical vertebrae. There are many theories as to their purpose including a hump (like a camel), duo sail supports (like that supposed of Spinosaurs and Dimetrodon), or covered by a bony sheath (like a cow�s horns). Pronounced: ah-MAR-guh-SAWR-us Named: for La Amarga in Argentina where it was discovered Taxon: Sauropoda, Diplodocidae, Dicraeosaurinae Diet: Probably primarily ate conifers, but may also have eaten: Gingkos, seed ferns, cycads, bennettitaleans, ferns, club mosses, and horsetails. Size: length:12 meters (37 feet) height: 4 meters (13 feet ) weight :roughly 5,000 kg Time period: Early Cretaceous (Hauterivian) about 132-127 million years ago |
