AUGUST 31 2004. NEW GOLD MOUNTAIN PAGE.
Rowher Flats OHV area is located approximately 10 miles north of the town of Newhall, CA. Take the Antelope Valley Freeway (Hwy. 14) and exit at Sand Canyon. Go north on Sand Canyon to Sierra Highway and turn right. Take Sierra Highway approximately five miles to Rush Canyon access Road. Look for the Rowher Flat sign on the left-hand side of the road.

We entered the OHV area from the main entrance on the southern side. Although my 4x4 trail guide suggested starting from the north side. We were planning on taking the circular route around the place but after just a couple miles of nice graded trail we ran into a locked gate.
We turned around and drove back to the entrance. From there we headed East. Again, after just about a mile the road ended. This time there was a big fenced in "Off Road Area". It was criss- crossed with little ATV trails, we drove around for a bit and headed out.

Just outside the "Off Road Area" I saw a little road heading down the hill. It was marked with a triple black diamond sign. The road down didn't look too bad and neither did most of the road going back up. But there was one section that was at least 45 degrees.
The place was totally deserted, and nobody even knew we were there. So I decided not to try the steep section.

There's a lot we didn't get to see. It would definitely be worth going out there again, next time with more people. And maybe try entering the park from the North end.
