Kelley's Works in Progress

Have some fun once in a while...

I don't care who you are, it's always a good idea to have some fun and relax once in a while. Here are some of the fun things that we do when we want a break in the middle of the day...

Studio Foglio. Phil Foglio and his wife Kaja have started self-publishing under Studio Foglio and Airship Entertainment, and he's even gone so far as to put his most recent (and possibly most entertaining) endeavour online - Girl Genius! As he says, "Adventure, Romance, Mad Science" - or, as he likes to describe it, a "Gaslamp Fantasy." Or "giant steam-powered robots, fantastic airships, and bizarre creatures" - a steampunk fantasy in Victorian Europe. If you want to go straight to the Girl Genius pages, click the banner:

For tinkerers like us (and like you, if you've found my ideas interesting so far...) this really hits home. Besides, we've always enjoyed Foglio's renderings and artwork.

Another webcomic that speaks to the tinkerer - especially if you're also a paintballer - check out The Whiteboard! Click the banner below, and follow the adventures of Doc Nickel, Alaskan polar bear (a cranky polar bear with a mallet, a machine shop, and too much caffiene) and his quirky buddies. Look at it this way - this guy managed to collapse the universe...

Here's one that's gotten us through the early days - The Bastard Operator from Hell! Think: an unmedicated psychopath running a computer room for a university - and later a major company - and you're on the right track. When we were working at Adobe way back when, this was the sort of thing that allowed a day to be finished without actually killing someone... Of course, his other stuff's not bad either - especially the "Kiwi-Bloke's Pages."

Of course, the story never ended. Read The Continuing Adventures of the BOFH for more current stuff - Simon's been back at the BOFH stories there for the last few years.

Granted, this may not seem like much, but it answers the purpose of entertainment neatly - and I'll add more as I find it (or decide it's worth adding. Not necessarily the same thing...)
