The Beginning...Aug.20, 1996

I purchased my '46 cj2a in August of 1996 for $400. The previous owner rolled the Jeep and was already parting it out. It came with a 289 Ford V8, but transmission and transfer case were missing. Also included was a windshield frame, full roll cage and hard top. The drivers side panel and both rear corners had severe body damage .

The tailgate was missing and none of the tires matched. The previous owner had welded a piece of channel iron to the already bent rear crossmember and hitch.

I later discovered that this was a very rare, early 1946 model cj2a, Serial #
11,XXX. The body has tool indentations on the drivers side, left over from the Military jeeps. It also has 3 metal ID tags (one is missing) on the dash instead of only one as later model flat fenders have. This Jeep was originally equipped with a 3sp column shifter. This was fun to learn about, but I didn't buy it to restore but to build into a serious mountain Jeep.
