Pearl Harbor

by Bobette Kersenbrock

You mentioned sending stories. I remember hearing Dad tell about being at Pearl Harbor when he and your dad were stationed at Scofield Barracks when the Japanese attacted. He was sound asleep until everything broke loose. He said your dad came running into his room and found him wide awake with that little drip of sweat he would get on the end of his nose. I asked him if he shot at any of the Japanese and he said no everyone was too busy running around trying to find some ammunition. The ammo was locked up and the ammo guy wouldn't give them any ammunition. They argued rather forcefully with him . . not sure if he gave over the ammo or they just went and got it, but I know Dad said they went up on the roof of Scofield Barracks and shot at some Japanese planes, but they never hit anything (unlike what was shown in the movie Tora, Tora!). 1
