Biographical Sketch of Maud (Bailey) Livings and Harry Livings

Maud Amazona, daughter of George W. and Saphrona (Linsley) Bailey, was born September 15, 1890. She was one of eleven children. After graduating from high school in 1907 she remained at home for the next two years. Then Maud attended Peru State Normal School. After graduation she taught in her home district known as No.13. Upon the death of her mother in 1913, she had the responsibility of her father's household, and the care of four younger siblings. During World War I she took a year of nurse's training at the Everette Sanitorium at Lincoln until an attack of flu and pneumonia forced her to discontinue this venture. Maud once again returned to her father's home and oversaw the household until his death on February 8th, 1924.

She was married to Harry George Livings of Davenport, Nebraska, March 16, 1924, and Davenport remained their home. Both Maud and Harry had fierce loyalty to their respective families in that they had supported and cared for younger siblings. They both devoted their young adult years to this end, and it remained evident throughout their married life.

Harry was born September 24, 1889 in Davenport, Nebraska. As a young adult Harry went to the Scottsbluff, Nebraska area and worked in a meatmarket. He served as a Meat Inspector in the United States Army during World War I. He received his training in Chicago and then he was stationed in Newport News, Virginia, reaching the rank of Sergeant. Upon his return to Davenport, he owned and operated the town's meatmarket.

Maud and Harry were the parents of three children, Harry Bailey, Rodney Almon and Esther Rae. Esther Rae dying in infancy and Harry Bailey passing away December 14, 2001. Maud and Harry were members of various organizations in the community, Maud being a member of the Legion Auxiliary, the Womans Club, the Missionary Society of Christ's Lutheran Church and past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, Harry was a member of the Blue Lodge of the Masonic Order and the American Legion. They both enjoyed playing bridge. The respective dates of death for Maud and Harry were May 1, 1956, and March 4, 1972.
