The '91 Firebirds received a freshened look and for the first time since 1969, a convertible. The convertible was available as a base Firebird with the W68 package and a 305 TBI engine, or as a Trans Am with the 305 TPI engine available only. The Trans Am's 305/auto combo gained 5hp for '91, for a total of 205.
All Firebirds received a new front and rear fascia, and coupes with the W68 Sport Appearance package, T/As and GTAs all received revised ground effects and body cladding as well.
Also, for the first time, supposedly t-tops were not available when the B2L 350 TPI engine was ordered. However, there have been documented examples of 350 TPI GTAs with t-tops that have turned up. While they were not officially available from the factory, Pontiac did indeed make some...assumably for special customer orders only.
Now required with the 350 TPI or 305 TPI/5 speed cars was RPO GU6, which was the "Performance Enhancement Group." It included the N10 dual catalytic converter option, 4 wheel disc brakes, engine oil cooler and a performance axle ratio.
