1988 did not see many advancements in the Camaro line. First, to simplify the line, two models were discontinued. The relatively unsuccessful LT was canceled after just one year, and the Z28 was canceled as well.
The Sport Coupes had a major exterior overhaul in '88, and looked virtually the same as the '87 Z28. The '88 Sport Coupe featured the silver or gold Z28 ground effects and 5 spoke, 15 inch rims. The interior received a 115MPH speedometer. In place of all Z28 logos, the Sport Coupe had "camaro" logos. The Sport Coupe did not receive the Z28s louvered hood or tailamps, however. A rare Sport Coupe-only one piece spoiler was offered soon after the model year began, with early '88s still using the RPO D80 3 piece spoiler. However, this spoiler was canceled during the model year, and Chevy put the 3 piece back on the Sport Coupe. Got that??

Other news for '88 was the long-overdue death of the 4 barrel carb. Replacing the 4bbl was the new 305 TBI, with TBI standing for "Throttle Body Injection." Hot Rod Magazine noted improved throttle response and over-4000RPM power with the TBI, versus the old 4 barrel.
Other changes for '88 included the addition of a new 145MPH speedometer on 305 and 350 TPI IROCs. The base 305 TBI IROCs got the same 115MPH speedo as the Sport Coupes.
