My 1997 30th Anniversary Z28

This is the car I claimed I would never own. Being a die-hard third-gen enthusiast, I always expected my next F body purchase to be some form of IROC, Z28 or GTA. I never wanted anything newer than a '92 Z28. I sort of fell into a 4th gen by accident really. I was supposed to buy a mint, 49k mile '91 Z28 from a co-worker's mother back in February. She got cold feet however, and decided against selling me the car. I have always wanted a mint, original 3rd gen V8, so I was eager to buy this car.

I happened to see an ad in the paper for a local Chevy dealer who claimed to have several used Z28s in stock. With some provoking from my father, I went down to see what they had. It was a dark night, with snow covering the tiny walkways in between the packed-together cars. But there it stood. In the front row of an area with about 25 4th gens (an EXTREMELY rare sight in New England, where dealers barely stock any), I saw a familar sight...a white 4th gen with orange stripes. I knew exactly what I was looking at...a 30th Anniversary '97 Z. I had only seen one before, a convertible. It was definitely love at first sight. And when I hopped inside and discovered it was a 6 speed, I said to my dad, "this car will be mine." $14,500 later, it was.

Super Chevy, January 1997

I took delivery on March 16th of this year, and since then I have done everything I can to find out more about this car. The dealer I work for ran the VIN for me, and I got a printout of the RPO codes (next best thing to the actual window sticker). This car was purchased brand new at another local dealer in June, 1998, and traded back in to the same dealer in November, 2000 with 40k miles.

I never thought I would become a 4th gen enthusiast, but these cars are unreal. The LT1's are such a flexible motor, the 6 speed is a great transmission, the handling is tight, and what's this, no squeaks and rattles?? Find a 3rd gen that can pull that off!!! This is a car I plan on keeping, period. Maybe after graduation I can search for a clean '92 25th Anniversary Z28, and finally get my 3rd gen V8...it would match this one nicely!
