• Online
  When a computer is connected to the Internet, or sending/receiving emails the user is said to be online.

• Operating System
  The operating system allows the computer to interpret the user commands and carry out the required tasks. Examples of operating systems are:
  Windows 95/98
  DOS
  Linux

• Output device
  A device connected to the computer that produces an output. A printer is the most common output device, but a monitor could also be classed as an output device as it outputs the display onto a screen.

• PC
  Abbreviation for Personal Computer.

• Peripheral
  Any device attached externally to a computer. Mice, scanners, digital cameras, printers are all examples of output devices.

• Processor
  The processor is the main chip on the motherboard. It is capable of performing millions of instructions per second. Processors have speeds measured in Megahertz. A 450 MHz processor can theoretically process 450 million instructions every second.

• Program
  A program is a set of instructions that can be processed by the computer. All software is made up of programs.
