Themed weddings are becoming extremely popular these days, but for us it was a presumed necessity.   You see, Michael and I met because of our love of costuming in general and Star Wars in particular.

Both of us have participated in costuming competitions for a number of years, and met during a costumed appearance and premiere celebration in Hollywood during the re release of the Star Wars trilogy.    We saw each other at numerous other costume related events in the months that followed. Sparks flew, and eventually the rest became history.

This being the case, as soon as our engagement was official it was instantly assumed by us (and most of our friends) that a costume wedding would be the ticket.   The Star Wars theme, however, wasn't actually our first choice.  Originally we were planning a fantasy/knight in shining armor wedding.  This was something Michael had been considering for years.  While  his concept sketches  were amazing and we were very excited about it, we were having a tough time getting things to come together.   It wasn't until several months into our planning that we hit on the answer.  While driving home from seeing the digital release of Episode 1: The Phantom Menace we were discussing the elaborate Naboo scenery, the Queen's wardrobe, and other visual virtues of the film when it hit us simultaneously:  THIS setting would make the perfect theme for our wedding, in honor of how we met.

Dissatisfied with the idea of sticking toy action figures on the cake, cutting it with a toy lightsaber,  and calling it a Star Wars theme, we instead wanted to transport our guests into the Star Wars universe, to the lavish world of Naboo.   And so began our 18 month quest to live the most unforgettable day of our lives.
