Next to some of the other influential Jedi, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master Yoda is without a doubt one of the most important figures in the Star Wars saga. Master Yoda lived to be over 900 years old and during his life had seen a lot of things change in the galaxy. As the highest ranking member of the Jedi Council, Master Yoda not only oversaw the happenings of the Jedi Order along side his fellow Council members, but he was also responsible for training young Jedi as they enter the Academy, teaching them in the ways of the Force, the history of the Jedi Order, and in basic lightsaber skills. Despite being the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy at the time, Master Yoda could not pinpoint the location of the Sith Lord that was somewhere in the galaxy. However, Master Yoda was able to help the Rebel Alliance by training its savior, Luke Skywalker, in the old ways of the Jedi Order.

Master Yoda was present for some of the more trying times of the Republic, like for the reappearance of the Sith, a sect of powerful Dark Side followers who were somewhere in the galaxy. After the surprise attack on Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn on Tatooine, Yoda was weary to believe that the Sith had returned after being gone for over a thousand years, but he did not want to dismiss the notion entirely. Yoda was also present when Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn brought Anakin Skywalker to the Jedi Temple to be tested for admittance to the Jedi Academy. Even though Anakin showed great promise and possessed the highest Midi-Chlorian count ever recorded, Yoda sensed a fear in the boy that he felt would lead him down the path to the Dark Side and refused his admission. After the death of Qui-Gon and the obvious rebirth of the Sith, Master Yoda reluctantly granted Anakin permission to train as a Jedi, hoping that by putting him under the tutelage of the newly promoted Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi he would not stray from the Light Side of Force.

As time passed, Master Yoda and the rest of the Jedi Council would be faced with a new threat, the emergence of the Separatist movement and their goal of taking over the galaxy from the Republic. Leading this group was a former Jedi named Count Dooku, who was also a former Padawan Learner of Master Yoda. What the Jedi didn't know is that Dooku had fallen to the Dark Side and was reborn as a Sith Lord, apprenticed to the same Dark Lord who was the master of Darth Maul. As the task force that was sent to Geonosis to rescue Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Senator Amidala was surrounded by a much larger group of battle droids, Master Yoda arrived with the Republic's new Clone Troopers to save the surviving Jedi and battle the Separatist armies. Once the Clone Troopers had the situation under control, Master Yoda took off to stop the mastermind behind all of this, Count Dooku. After injuring Obi-Wan and maiming Anakin, Dooku was about to take off when he was confronted by his former master. Once the two realized that neither one would be able to force the other into submission by the use of Force powers alone, both combatants drew their lightsabers and engaged each other in a fierce duel. As powerful as Dooku had become with his new found Dark Side powers, he was still no match for his old mentor. It was only when Dooku put the lives of Obi-Wan and Anakin in danger, knowing that Yoda would save them before stopping him, that he was able to escape. After the surviving Jedi returned to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, Master Yoda, Jedi Master Mace Windu, and Obi-Wan Kenobi  discussed the events that were unraveling before them and the galaxy. Then, while correcting Obi-Wan on his statement of victory, Master Yoda sighed with the realization that the Dark Side had completely clouded the Jedi's abilities to see into the future, marking the beginning of much darker times to follow for everyone in the galaxy.

As the Empire grew, the new Emperor sought out to eliminate the Jedi Order just as the Jedi had once done to the Sith centuries before. The one that was destined to return peace and justice to the galaxy was Luke Skywalker, the nephew of a moisture farmer on Tatooine. As Luke began to find out about the past he never new existed, and was told of his Jedi heritage, he began to train as a Jedi under the wing of the now much older Obi-Wan Kenobi. After Obi-Wan's death at the hands of Darth Vader, Luke was more inspired to continue his training. With a narrow escape from an Imperial attack on the ice planet Hoth, Luke was guided to the swamp planet of Dagobah, where he was to continue his training under the guidance of the great and wise Master Yoda. Yoda tested Luke in many areas, tests that pushed both body and mind. While Luke was able to pass the tests of the body, his doubts and disbelief kept him from realizing his full potential. While Yoda was instructing Luke on how to use the Force to forsee things that have not yet happened, Luke saw the image of his friends in danger and abandoned his training to save them. It was only after he was the one who needed to be rescued that Luke went back to Dagobah to continue his training. Once he arrived, Luke found Yoda near death in his hut. Yoda then told Luke that his training was in fact complete, he also told Luke that there was another Skywalker child, whom Luke later found out to be Princess Leia. Master Yoda then died, his body disappeared and his spirit became one with the Force. After the defeat of the Empire at the battle of Endor, Luke saw the ghostly image of Yoda alongside Obi-Wan and his father, they were all together once again in the light.
