As a member of the Jedi Council, second seat only to Master Yoda, Jedi Master Mace Windu was present during the final decades of the Republic. He was one of the Council members who tested a young Anakin Skywalker in his abilities in the Force. Mace was also one of the many Jedi to lead the Clone troopers into battle during the Clone Wars. Although Master Windu was looked upon as a very knowledgable and wise Jedi, his exploits in combat were just as well known. Mace Windu was one of the few Jedi ever to take his lightsaber skills to that of a Form VII technique, which if pushed too far, can bring a Jedi right to the Dark Side. Master Windu also took on a few Padawan Learners during his time as a Jedi. His most recognizable student is Depa Billaba, who sits with Master Windu on the Jedi Council.
As a member of the Jedi Council, Master Windu was very well versed in the history of the Jedi Order. It was this knowledge that came before him in the form of a boy, delivered by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. Qui-Gon believed that the boy was the Chosen One, an ancient prophecy that would bring balance to the Force. After testing the boy in his abilities with basic Force powers, tests that he passed with ease, and even after finding out that he had the highest Midi-Chlorian count ever recorded in the history of the Jedi Order, the Council denied the boy permission to train as a Jedi. They sensed a fear in him that could deliver him to the Dark Side. It was only after the death of Qui-Gon Jinn and the confirmation that the Sith, an ancient enemy of the Jedi, had returned that the council granted the boy permission to train as a Jedi, hoping that he would fulfill the prophecy.
Over the next decade, the Jedi Knights would be spread out all over the galaxy, settling disputes that had spawned from the birth of a Separatist group out to destroy the Republic. This Separatist group was being led by a former Jedi named Count Dooku. Even though Dooku was in fact behind most of the more violent acts taken out on the Republic, the members of the Jedi Order insisted that it was someone else responsible, pressing that Dooku's Jedi training would keep him from creating such bloodshed. It wasn't until Master Windu confronted his former colleague that he saw the truth for himself. During the battle that ensued, Master Windu was confronted by the infamous bounty hunter Jango Fett. Even though Fett was able to do away with some of the other Jedi in the arena, he was no match for Master Windu. As Fett sent laser bolt after laser bolt at the Jedi Master, nothing got through. Fett saw that it was time for him to leave and was about to take off with his jet pack, only to be decapitated by Master Windu before he could even get off the ground. After he and the surviving Jedi left the execution arena, they engaged the Separatist army along side the Clone troopers. After the dust had settled and many Jedi lost their lives, those surviving Jedi returned to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. As they regroup from the recent events on Geonosis, Master Windu speaks with Master Yoda about the grip that the Dark Side now has over the Jedi. This along with other events to follow end up changing the lives of everyone in the galaxy for many decades to come. |
