Darth Maul is the perfect example of what born and raised evil truly is. With his dark appearance accented with the black and red markings on his face, capped with the horns on his head, just looking at Darth Maul puts fear into some and terror into the rest. Chosen by Darth Sidious, the galaxy's first Sith Lord in over a millenium, Darth Maul has been rigorously trained in the arts of the Sith, crafted into a weapon that will bring the Jedi Order to it's knees. His first mission is to track down the Queen of Naboo and bring her back so that she can be forced into signing a treaty that will make the invasion of Naboo by the Trade Federation legal. Even though Darth Maul found the Queen and got the jump on Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn in an attempt to capture her, his plan was foiled by the quick thinking of Qui-Gon's apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

During the attack on the Trade Federation forces that had been occupying the Theed Royal Palace since the queens departure, Darth Maul confronted Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi in the palace hangar. As their three-way duel ensues, Obi-Wan is separated from Qui-Gon and Darth Maul by a series of timed laser shields leading to a room with a deep exhaust shaft. As the doors open, the battle continues, pitting Qui-Gon against the fierce Darth Maul alone as Obi-Wan is separated from his master once again. Then, as the duel between Darth Maul and Qui-Gon rages on, Darth Maul gets the better of his Jedi adversary by stunning him with a swift block and then spinning beside Qui-Gon, striking him in the stomach. As Obi-Wan stood there, forced to watch his master fall at the hands of this evil creature, a rage builds inside of him that he cannot possibly control. Then the doors open a second time, it is now Obi-Wan's turn to fight Darth Maul and like his master, he must do so alone. As their duel progresses, Obi-Wan quickly gets the upper hand by chopping Darth Maul's double-bladed lightsaber in half, evening the odds. Unfortunately for Obi-Wan, this advantage doesn't last long as Darth Maul sees an opportunity to exploit the rage that has now consumed Obi-Wan. As the two clash their lightsabers, Darth Maul uses his Dark Side powers to push Obi-Wan into the exhaust shaft behind him. As Darth Maul assumes his victory and begins to taunt the dangling Jedi, Obi-Wan collects his thoughts and clears his mind to find a way out of the shaft. Then, just as Darth Maul used his Dark Side powers to send Obi-Wan into the shaft, Obi-Wan used his connection to the Light Side of the Force to leap out of the shaft and at the same time, reach for the lightsaber of his fallen master to slice the Sith warrior in two. However the death of Darth Maul was only a temporary setback to his master, for Darth Sidious would choose another to be his apprentice and continue his plans to take over the galaxy.
