Name: Obi-Wan "Ben" Kenobi
Associated with: Jedi / Rebel Alliance
Jedi Rank: Jedi Knight
Species/Gender: Human / Male
Homeworld: unknown
Apprentice: Luke Skywalker
After the Republic fell and the Empire rose in it's place, Obi-Wan went into hiding on Tatooine and took on the name Ben. Obi-Wan kept close to where he left Luke Skywalker in the safe possession of Owen and Beru Lars, however many years would pass before he would see Luke again. If it weren't for a determined R2-D2, who was given a message by Princess Leia to be delivered to Obi-Wan, their meeting may never have happened. While chasing his droid, who just wandered off unexpectedly, a now grown Luke Skywalker met the older Ben Kenobi for the first time. It was at this meeting that Ben revealed to Luke his past, that he was once a Jedi Knight and that Luke's father, Anakin Skywalker, was also a Jedi Knight. He continued to tell Luke that he and Anakin once fought side by side, until Anakin was killed by a former student of his who turned to the Dark Side of the Force, named Darth Vader. This was partly the truth, but Obi-Wan didn't want to overload young Luke with too much information at once. After giving Luke a gift from his father, Anakin's Jedi lightsaber, he and Luke set off to continue with the mission that Princess Leia had started.

After acquiring transport from an unlikely source, namely from Han Solo and Chewbacca aboard the Millennium Falcon, the group set off to deliver the Princess' message to Alderaan. While in hyperspace, Obi-Wan began Luke's lightsaber training by using a Jedi Training Remote. After coming out of hyperspace, the group was stunned to see that Alderaan was gone, an entire planet destroyed. Just as they came to grips with what had happened, the Millennium Falcon was captured by the weapon used to destroy their destination, the Death Star. Once aboard, the team split up. Obi-Wan went alone to disengage the tractor beam while Luke, Han, and Chewbacca went off to find Leia and rescue her. On his return trip to the Millennium Falcon, Obi-Wan was confronted by his former student, Darth Vader. As Luke, Han, Chewbacca, and Leia return to the Millennium Falcon, Darth Vader sees them escaping. In an attempt to help his friends escape, Obi-Wan sacrifices himself to Vader, knowing the Dark Lord wouldn't pass up a chance to destroy his former master. It's an opportunity that Vader does in fact take. After striking the heroic Jedi down, Obi-Wan's body disappears as he becomes one with the Force. Although Obi-Wan is no longer with Luke in his physical form, he instructs Luke during key moments in Luke's life through the Force. Such as on his attack of the Death Star, and when Obi-Wan tells Luke to travel to Dagobah, where he will find a very wise and powerful Jedi Master named Yoda to help him complete his Jedi training. Even though some of Obi-Wan's weaknesses may have led to the fall of Anakin Skywalker and the rise of Darth Vader, it was his exceptional knowledge and faith in the Force that helped Luke Skywalker overcome such great evil and save the galaxy.
