******************************
Polly ducked into an alley and hid herself in the shadows, pressing herself close to the rough brick wall and sucked in a deep breath, holding it. Two guys ran by her alley without so much as a glance. She let her breath out loudly, relieved. It was only 8 p.m. and those jerks had had the nerve to try and mug her!
“At least I was able to outrun them,” she thought to herself, “I didn’t want to have to shift to get out of that. I just don’t feel like dealing with that tonight…”
She let herself slowly slide down the wall till she was squatting over the cold, dirty alley floor. Now that she was still on an adrenaline high, she did not yet feel like going back to The Aemorpha and everyone here. She sighed and took a piece of gum out of her pocket.
“Goddamn,” she muttered aloud, unwrapping the gum.
But as she was unwrapping it, she heard a faint noise to her right. She paused, and listened for it again.
Mew…mew…
mrow…
Cats? But where? She did not see any around…unless… Polly dropped her gum, got up, and walked over to a couple of dingy cardboard boxes by a pile of fetid garbage and peeped inside one. Inside the box were four kittens, only a month or so old, small and scruffy looking, but two were already dead. The other two, however, looked up at her pathetically and mewed some more.
“Hey, little ones,” cooed Polly happily, “hey...did somebody just leave you guys out here? How sad…”
She picked them both up, one tiger tabby and the other gray and white, and sat down with them.
“Gez, you two are cute! You must be hungry, too…”
The kittens mewed in agreement.
“…But I don’t have any food. And I don’t think gum qualifies as food…and no offense, little ones, but I’m not digging through that smelly garbage for you. But, I can keep you warm.”
They mewed more at her as she took off her coat and wrapped it around them in her arms.
“I don’t think I can keep you two, either. Joseph and especially Silvia would get real mad at me, I bet.”
She stopped for a moment, thinking.
“But, maybe I can keep you until we find you both homes… but I don’t know…”
Mew! Mrow-mew! Mew!
“Still cold? Well, I know how to keep you warm…”
Polly gently set them down for a moment and concentrated. Soon, she had shifted over to her feline form, which looked like a calico housecat…a three and a half-foot tall calico housecat. She nosed off the jacket from around the kittens and lay down next to it. The kittens, wasting no time, bound over to her and quickly tried to find a place to feed. Polly, somewhat irritated, pawed them away from her belly and scooped them up closer to her chest. Seemingly okay with that, the two kittens nestled into her furry body and the three of them fell asleep for a while.

After about an hour or two, Polly awoke to sharp pains in her shoulder. Annoyed, she opened one sleepy kitty eye to look around, then sprang to her feet and hissed at the cause of her pain. A bum stood before her and the kittens, holding the stick he had been using to poke her and looking very frightened. Quickly, she picked up both kittens in her mouth and scaled the wall closest to her while to bum screamed and ran off. Once on the rooftop, Polly set the kittens down while she shifted to Chatro, her fastest form. Picking them back up in her mouth, she ran and jumped as many rooftops as she could until she had to climb down off the buildings, then hid and shifted back to homid form.
“Shit,” she muttered, looking herself over, “naked again! I have got to remember to dedicate my clothes!”
Still not back at The Aemorpha yet, she could not just waltz naked down the street…but what to do? She looked around, desperately seeking and answer…and found nothing. Time to improvise. Shifting back to feline, because she was sick of being cold and naked, she once again picked up the kittens and peeped out from her hiding place. No one was around – good. Polly quickly darted across the street and raced down the roadside, only a short block away from The Aemorpha, but suddenly had to hide momentarily from an oncoming car. So close now, she sprinted on, coming up behind The Aemorpha, where Sunny Joe’s teepee was set up. She stopped to rest for a minute by the teepee so she could se the kittens down and shift down to homid. As she did, she heard laughter behind her.
“Forgot to dedicate your clothes again, huh?”
Polly sighed and mentally braced herself for the onslaught of lewd comments that would surely soon begin.
“Yes, I did. I’m going inside now, Sunny.”
“”You’re going in naked? As sincerely beautiful as your body is, do you think that’s a good idea?”
“Unless you’re nice enough to lend me clothes, which I somehow doubt, then yes, I am.”
Sunny Joe looked down at the two kittens at her feet and smiled even more.
“Nice pussies. You know Silvia will kill you is you take them inside, right?”
“Probably,” sighed Polly, “but I’m not going to keep them forever. Just till I find homes for them.”
“Do yourself a favor and leave them outside. You don’t need to create any more trouble with her.”
“I’m not going to leave them outside alone!”
Silence followed, with Sunny still staring and grinning at her nudity, as Polly plotted a scheme.
“Sunny,” she said sweetly with an angelic smile, “could they stay with you tonight?”
He grinned, “Only if you stay too, sweetheart. And if you do stay, I’ll defiantly make it worth your while…”
Her smile fell and she glared at the Indian.
“You’re a pervert!”
“Oh, in the worst ways, too. I’d like to show you some time, in fact, but are you staying or not?”
She did not reply right away, but stared at him silently for a while.
“Alright,” she finally said, “but I’m going to get some clothes first.”
“Too bad,” Sunny said dejectedly, “I had big plans for us. Oh well, hurry back.”
Polly rolled her eyes and hurried off, eager to get away from Sunny’s lecherous looks.
*~~~~**~~~~**~~~~*
Polly returned about ten minutes later, clothed and carrying a pillow and blanket. Kittens and Indian not in sight, she assumed they went into teepee and strode up to it and tapped on the tent flap.
“Come in.”
She pushed the flap aside and, hunched over, walked in and took her shoes off. The teepee’s inside was huge – bigger then it should, in reality, be. But this teepee was special; Sunny Joe had put the Rite of the Cardboard Palace in it, which made it a very nice place to live. Sunny looked up from the kittens in his lap when she entered.
“Ah,” he chuckled, “so that’s what you look like with clothes on.”
“Ha ha, very funny. Where do you want me to sleep?”
“With me.”
“I ask again: where do you want me to sleep?”
He shrugged, “Wherever.”
She set her blanket and pillow down in an area that was warmed nicely by the fire burning in the teepee’s middle. A fire in the teepee made Polly nervous, but Sunny was an Indian, after all, so she tried to assure herself he knew what he was doing. Made happy by the fire’s warmth, she began stretching her arms and legs.
“What are you doing,” Sunny asked, stroking the tiger kitten under it’s chin.
“Yoga.”
“What ever for?”
“Helps me sleep,” she replied faintly through her concentration, her eyes closed as she kept up the exercises.
“You know, I heard yoga’s supposed to make you more flexible…”
Polly opened one eye to shoot an angry glace at him, and he laughed. She stopped, fed up with his attitude, and laid down on her makeshift bed.
“Going to sleep already, Polly?”
“Mm-hmm.”
“But it’s only 10:30 or so.”
“I’m tired. I shifted a lot tonight.”
Sunny let silence linger for a little while before speaking again.
“So tell me, how exactly did you end up back here naked with two kittens?”
She sighed and sat up on her elbows.
“Long story short, two guys tried to mug me so I hid in an alley and found the kittens in a box, where upon I debated whether or not I should keep them. But, I felt bad so I shifted to feline and slept with them for a while to keep them warm, but a grungy bum found me and poked me with a stick and I had to climb up the building closest to me to get away, then shifted to Chatro so I could run faster then I can in homid, then after running for a while I shifted back to feline so I wouldn’t be naked and to get home, which is the point where I returned home, shifted down to homid, and you found me naked with the kittens.”
“…That was the short version?”
“Hey, you asked!”
He shrugged and nodded.
“So, are you going to name them?”
“Why? I’m not keeping them.”
Sunny smiled, got up, and walked over to Polly with the kittens.
“You already named them, didn’t you?”
Polly glowered at Sunny.
“…The gray and white is Lucky and the tiger is Eugene.”
“Eugene?!”
“I like that name!”
He put his hands up in defeat and went back to his previous spot in the teepee. Lying back down, Polly closed her eyes and soon fell asleep to the subdued sounds of Sunny chanting to his spirits.
*~~~~**~~~~**~~~~*
Polly awoke to the sound of two people heatedly arguing.
“She’s not here, really! I-“
“Sunny, you know where she is, don’t you? She didn’t come back last night and you know why! Now, let me in!”
“Silvia, please, you don’t want to-“
Silvia burst into the teepee and froze when she saw Polly on the floor under her blanket.
“You two slept together, didn’t you,” she roared in disbelief.
“I wish,” Sunny muttered under his breath.
“No way,” Polly shouted, “he’s way too perverted and-“
“What is that,” Silvia cut in, pointing to a squirming mass under the blanket at her feet.
Polly looked down and gasped.
“Uhhhh… nothing?”
“Bullshit, Polly. What’s under the blanket?”
Polly sighed and threw the blanket off of Lucky and Eugene, who were wrestling with each other and chewing on her socks. Silvia’s eyes narrowed and she crossed her arms.
“So, that’s why you stayed out here. At least you had enough sense not to bring them inside for the night. I trust you’re not planning on keeping them?”
Shaking her had no, Polly scooped both kittens up and held them close to her, unsure of what Silvia would do to them.
“Good. Because if you do, they become my snacks…”
Polly glared daggers at the other woman, who grinned somewhat sadistically at her and the kittens, and held Lucky and Eugene all the more closer.
“So, let me guess… you got in trouble getting those kittens home, didn’t you?”
“No! Well, there was this bum… but otherwise nobody saw me!”
“ I bet…. Nevertheless, you need to get rid of them. Today.”
She turned away from Polly, but paused and turned back.
“Oh, and Jamie wants to see you.”
“What for?”
“I don’t know,” Silvia said, rolling her eyes, “something about boy troubles. I didn’t honestly care enough to listen to her. She just told me to send you her way if I found you..”
She turned to Sunny, who had been quietly standing by the whole time.
“And you,” said Silvia, “don’t lie to me next time.”
Sunny smiled uncomfortably and nodded, moving out of the way as Silvia stalked out of his teepee. After her departure, Sunny and Polly looked over at each other as she set the kittens back down.
“Wow. She really hates you, Polly.”
Polly groaned and flopped back down, pulling the blanket up over her head.
“Shut up, Sunny. I already hate my life as it is…”
~The End~
Epilogue:
Polly found good homes for Lucky and Eugene, although Eugene’s name was changed to Mr. Fluffy. Silvia still is not fond of Polly. Jamie worked through her man troubles with Polly, who was not pleased with having to help her. Polly finally remembered to dedicate her clothing. And Sunny Joe…NEVER SAW POLLY NAKED AGAIN!!! BWAH-HAHAHA! He later commits suicide because of it… ha, just kidding… ^_^
