Star Wars: Attack of the Clones

Let's see... it has been three very long years since The Phantom Menace. Finally, (it seems) we have a new Star Wars movie.

If you just plain love Star Wars no matter what, then you probably have already seen this movie and I don't have to tell you to watch it.

If you like movies where things make a lot of sense and there is little to no confusion, I would suggest seeing something else. Maybe Spiderman, I heard that was good, although I have not seen it for myself.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a huge fan of anything Star Wars. I have the picture encyclopedia, the Trivial Pursuit game, you name it. However, I felt like this one wasn't as good as I thought it could have been. There was rumoredly a lot of "romance" between my boyfriend, er, I mean, Anakin Skywalker and Padm Amidala. However, I felt like it just wasn't enough. It left me questioning the basis of their entire relationship. Why do they like each other? Why do they love each other? Obviously, Anakin thinks that Padm is hot, and it seems like he has been jonesing for her ever since he was a little boy. Why would she want him? Other than the fact that he is deliciously good-looking? It's a mystery. They don't solve it.

Yoda really did kick some shiny bum in this movie, but he really was looking different to me. Maybe I prefer the Muppet Yoda as opposed to the completely animated version. He seemed less real to me, and I felt less of a connection to him than in previous films. Obi-Wan Kenobi seemed like a bossy control freak. Christopher Lee (he also played the dark wizard Sarumon in Lord of the Rings) was pretty violent, but I had trouble understanding his position with everything. Jenga Fett was even harder to understand.

Basically, after the shock of, "I can't believe I just barely saw Star Wars, yea!" I was just really confused and kinda disappointed. I expected a more Empire Strikes Back type of ending than the one I got. Also, I thought that Anakin should have been a lot stronger of a Jedi then he was in this movie. I mean, he totally got his butt kicked. That should have not happened to my boyfriend. Oh, it is totally apparent where Luke got his trademark whininess from. If you haven't seen the movie, just guess. If you have seen the movie, then you know I mean. I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

This review is a lot more negative that I thought it was going to be. What did I like about this movie? Well, the costumes were pretty amazing. There was limited Jar-Jar (about 30-45 seconds worth). Anakin is really hot. Padm is gorgeous. The soundtrack was... semi-excellent; I was just expecting better. Yoda rocks. Mace Windu is also pretty violent. No *NSync. And you get to meet Owen and Veru, the future aunt and uncle of Luke Skywalker. I will probably have to see It again in just so I can understand the plot better. I was almost as confused as I was after I saw Mission Impossible for the first time. Crazy.
