Perfection, by Crysta Novelli

Perfection
Is there such a thing?
Or is perfection merely an illusion
Something created by us, or for us
Carved by society, into our minds?

Sometimes what we want
Isn't what we get.
Sometimes what we think we have,
Isn't what we've got.
Sometimes what we think we want,
Isn't what we need.
Sometimes what we have,
Is exactly what we need.

But can we shed the illusion
And accept the truth?
Can we grow beyond the carvings
Society has etched into our soul?
Can we find the strength
To rise above it all?

Sometimes what we want
Isn't what we get.
Sometimes what we think we have,
Isn't what we've got.
Sometimes what we think we want,
Isn't what we need.
Sometimes what we have,
Is exactly what we need.

If when you close your eyes,
What you have is what you want,
Why, if you open your eyes,
would it not be what you want?
Wherein lies the logic,
of losing sight by opening our eyes?

Sometimes what we want
Isn't what we get.
Sometimes what we think we have,
Isn't what we've got.
Sometimes what we think we want,
Isn't what we need.
Sometimes what we have,
Is exactly what we need.

If we forget what lies beyond,
We lose sight of what matters most.
If we lose sight of what matters most,
We lose ourselves, fading, drifting,
into society's grand illusion.
But if we believe, and if we are strong,
we can beat the illusion, and accept the truth,

That sometimes what we want
Isn't what we get.
Sometimes what we think we have,
Isn't what we've got.
Sometimes what we think we want,
Isn't what we need.
Sometimes what we have,
Is exactly what we need.
