Written in loving memory of Laura Williams, 1980-2001.

Soothing tears fall,
A roaring tide to dull the pain.
To ease our loss,
And Heaven’s gain.
Death knows not age,
Nor face, nor name,
There are no rules
When He plays his game.
Rhyme and reason
Is what we seek,
But He preys on the strong,
As well as the meek.

We ask the question,
“Why, God, why?”
But to our ears,
There’s no reply.
Though it doesn’t matter,
In the end,
Because nothing we would hear,
Could make amends.
Emptiness wraps us up
In its cold embrace,
Because nothing on Earth
Can fill your place.

The fire inside you
Burned so bright.
You filled our lives
With your guiding light.
But a cruel twist
Of wicked fate,
And now you stand
At Heaven’s gate.
Up above us
Is where you’ll fly
You’ve earned your wings
And now we cry.

In our hearts
You’ll always stay,
A guiding light
To lead the way.
You knew not scorn
Nor hate nor pride,
But faced each day
With faith inside.
You’ll be in our hearts
Day after day.
And in God’s name
Is how we’ll pray.
