4th and 10 on the 40
Blogging the world of sports, focusing mostly on football and baseball. From the perspective of a Steelers/Yankees fan.
The bandwagon just got lighter
Heading into Week 5, the Steelers are sitting at 1-2. And everyone's starting to: a) hurl excuses around; b) cry that the season's over; c) call for Ben to be benched; and d) in the case of someone I recently encountered, burn everything Steelers that they own. In the case of the person implicated in (d), you should be ashamed of yourself. I have no respect for people like you. None. And as for the people implicated in (b), it's Week 4. We've got 12 games to go, and after seeing Cincinnati manhandled today, things are really, honestly, looking up. We may have lost to them last week, but today proved that their 3 wins were gifts. In the case of everyone implied in (c), Ben did come back from an appendectomy after, like, a week. Not to give excuses or anything, but having been through abdominal surgery, I can tell you that stitches in the abdomen are not fun. They hurt and itch. So what if he's clutching his stomach after every play? So what if he keeps poking at the incisions? The aforementioned side effects of abdominal stitches would be why he does those things! Also: being that he barely played in the preseason, benching him isn't the answer. Let him get his reps. He'll be fine. And to everyone else: didn't Coach Cowher say no excuses? Didn't Ben say the same thing? And now the latest thing from you guys is that Ben has PTSD. That might be true, but let's wait until an actual diagnosis before jumping off the Roberto Clemente Bridge, alright? Ben's going to be fine. Hines and Troy are going to be fine. The team as a whole is going to be fine. This isn't over.
