Four Downs on this Saturday, the 19th of August

- Jerry Rice is coming out of retirement so that he can retire a 49er. He's not going to play at all; the contract is just a formality so that he can retire in San Francisco. This is fitting - he made his biggest impact in San Fran.
- Junior Seau, on the other hand - he announced his retirement last week, and now he's coming out of retirement - to play in New England. His reasoning? He wants a Super Bowl ring and feels that only New England can get it for him. This is disgusting. A slap in the face to the Chargers, a team that made him what he is, for sure.
- Ben's thumb is in the news again. He sprained it when he hit it on another player's shoulder pad on Wednesday. He started tonight, however. The Thumb is going to be fine - and so is Ben.
- Maurice Clarett, a former Broncos draft pick, is in trouble again. It appears that he's got ties to the Israeli mob, of all things. He promised them a huge chunk of what he would have earned on his rookie contract. He got arrested last week when he was discovered wearing a bullet-proof vest, with assault weapons in the back of his vehicle. I guess now we know what all that was for. Jail is probably the safest place for him right now.
