Edmonton Oilers for the block
Last night was Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals. It was a must-win for both teams, in a way. Carolina would have the Cup had they won last night. But Edmonton wouldn't have any of it. Fernando Pisani scored the winning goal in OT to force Game 6 on Saturday - in Edmonton. What was interesting last night is that neither team held anything back. Both were so aggressive that I'm not sure if the penalty box was ever empty. It seemed like the entire game was on power play, which made it interesting at times, with 4-4 matchups when both teams had someone in the box. But the Oilers won 4-3, with Pisani making history. The overtime goal was the first short-handed goal in OT in the history of the Stanley Cup Finals - this one coming just 28 seconds after Edmonton's Steve Staios lands in the penalty box. But I can't help but wonder something - would Carolina have won if the Stanley Cup were not brought out on national TV before the game was over? Seems like its handlers did the Oilers a favor...whatever. Game 6. Saturday. 8 PM. In Edmonton. Not sure if I'll watch, but if it turns out to be anything like last night, I just might. 2006-06-15 18:49:51 GMT
