"Here
With Me"

Scully lay back in her bed, staring out her window. Had this really happened?
Was Mulder really gone? But according to Skinner, it really had happened. He
had seen it all. The lights...the dark mass that was the
spaceship...but wait a minute. She didn't recall him saying he'd seen
Mulder actually leave. She didn't remember.
I didn't hear you leave
I wonder how am I still here
And I don't want to move a thing
It might change my memory
Everything had been in a haze, and it still was. She remembered finding herself
in the hospital...and being told she was with child. A tear came to her eye. It
was Mulder's. It had to be. She remembered telling Skinner, and he not saying a
word. They both knew the fate that Mulder's abduction most likely had in store
for Scully and her unborn child. The child without a father,
but still with the burden of the unknown.
A choking sob rose in her throat and brought her back to the present...her
darkened apartment that echoed the emptiness of her heart.
Oh I am what I am
I'll do what I want
But I can't hide
I won't go
I won't sleep
I can't breathe
Until you're resting here with me
Scully closed her eyes and her hand unconsciously moved to her belly, where new
life was beginning to exist. This child would be with her. It was her child. Their child.
I won't leave
I can't hide
I cannot be
Until you're resting here with me
Scully opened her eyes and gazed at the ceiling. She saw nothing, though. She
felt disembodied, as if she weren't really there. "I can't believe this is
really happening..." she whispered. "It
can't be...Mulder, where are you?" She heard her apartment door open, a
distant click, as if it were in the next apartment over. "Mulder?"
I don't want to call my friends
They might wake me from this dream
And I can't leave this bed
Risk forgetting all that's been
The door closed, and a figure came through to where Scully rested. Scully sank
once again against her pillows when she realized who it was.
"Scully...we're doing all we can," Skinner said, gently, "but
there's no trace of him."
Scully choked back a threatening sob, and as Skinner's statement hit her, level-headedness
kicked in. No. She couldn't do this. It wasn't good for her child...Mulder's
child.
Oh I am what I am
I'll do what I want
But I can't hide
I won't go
I won't sleep
I can't breathe
Until you're resting here with me
I won't leave
I can't hide
I cannot be
Until you're resting here with me
Scully's hand moved once again to her stomach. But this time, she felt not
despair, but hope. She looked at Skinner.
"The truth, sir. It - it's wherever Mulder is. He
has found what he's been looking for," Scully said. "I won't stop
looking for him." `I owe it to this child', she thought. `I will always
look for you, Mulder...until I find you.'
