Lorien Lullaby

Little cousin, please don't cry
It's not your fault, you're not to blame
Just go to sleep, I'll be close by
Ill try my best to ease your pain

He fell and left without a word
His booming voice is silenced now
With arms spread like a wounded bird
If well survive, I know not how

But little cousin, please don't cry
The King will guard us from the night
Stalwart companions watch the sky
And dear friends sleep within our sight

Theyve called you fool, naive and young
You were not made for death and pain
But soon your last tear will be wrung
And you will someday laugh again

So little cousin, please don't cry
Our home is far, or allies few
But rest your head and dry your eye
Ill always be here to comfort you

Soon we must leave these wooded shores
The Lady's gifts will serve us well
And we'll pass into song and lore
But to what end? I cannot tell

Little cousin, please don't cry
The Elven songs ring high and clear
We have not yet learned how to die
Failure is now our only fear
