| Bats The roaring bridge almost breathed. Some dark, stately, disquiet beast, it�s feet in the water. Puny mortals came to gawk at it, Awaiting the birth of multitudes of winged children. The trees, the people, the insects buzzed. The grass smelled like it had been baked all day. So I lay on the still warm ground, With a blanket of purple velvet sky. You were sweet to look at. My almost lover, I was afraid to touch you. The distance that was suddenly gone Was still so new. And still you were sweet to look at. The dieing sun made a halo for your curly brown head. The look on your face wrenched my heart, As you leaned forward. You kissed me twice, I opened my eyes To meet yours, blue green and filled with wonder.
