The real Keira had been tortured by a Sith who knew about the power Sionna would eventually inherit on Bandomeer and wanted it, feeling that by getting her family he could get Sionna and turn her. Sionna escaped and so Keira instead turned to the Dark Side and trained to become a Sith. She now wants her revenge on her foster sister for the death of her parents.
