14 Days of Supplies for 1 Person

Experts recommendation vary from having 3 to 14 days of supplies on hand in case of emergencies. It is better to have more supplies than needed and this checklist provides a baseline for that. Note special supplies may be needed for infants (diapers, formula) and the elderly (medicine).

Personal Protection [OPTIONAL]

During emergency events the best and worst of mankind can be found. Ideally you may find yourself with a group of people that are willing to help anyone but at the same time you must be prepared to face the fact that you may also encounter the brutal barbaic animalist nature of mankind as well. How will you protect yourself and those you love?

Firearms are a personal decision that everyone must make for themseleves. I found this quote best in the research I found on this subject. "In choosing a firearms, a shotgun is a very desirable weapon. There is a certain psychological factor involving shotguns. It creates instant fear for anyone who has ever been faced by one. Consult with a gun dealer as to the best type for your needs. Also, make sure you have an adequate supply of fresh ammunition on hand." (Source: See Note 1)

Note 1:

In the event of a major disaster, the possibility of ruptured or blocked sewer lines is conceivable. Under such conditions, toilets could not be utilized due to the threat of disease, escalating to epidemic proportions if not properly dealt with.

Establish a temporary toilet facility, preferably on the most distant perimeter of your property from your house. Excavate a hole approximately two feet square, and three feet deep. Fill the freshly excavated hole with approximately two to three inches of dry lime. The excavation is now ready for use. Periodically apply an inch or two of dry lime to the excavation as it fills. When the excavation has filled to within six inches from the top, apply two inches of dry lime, and the remainder with dirt to the top of the excavation.
