| PFC - RAY ORVILLE DORMAN | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Ray Orville Dorman was born 12 May 1920 in Bowie, Texas. He was the son of Roy Alvin Dorman and Jesse Jewel Raines. He married Christine Adell Tichenor on Aug 23 1939 in Lubbock, Texas. Shortly after they migrated from Texas to California with his parents. Momma said that they're old car looked like the family from the Grapes of Wrath movie. They lived on what was once the Foothill Ranch in Corona, CA. Daddy was an Automotive Mechanic. Although he didn't have a strong educational background he was a man of strong integrity and had the fortitude of a generation in his slinder build. |

| Private First Class, Ray O. Dorman, my daddy, was part of the 556th Army Air Force Base Unit. His entry into active service began 20 Jan 1943 and he separated on 16 Oct 1945 after demobilization on 15 Dec 1944. His "Separation Qualification Record stated he was a private for 1 month and Private First Class for 32 months (thought to be a typo). He was involved in the following Battles and Capaigns: Normandy Ardennes Rhineland Central Europe Air Offensive Europe Northern France Daddy drove the transport trucks. He didn't speak much about what he saw while overseas but did tell me a transport truck ahead of him was bombed and blown off the road right in front of him and he lost many of his buddies in that one attack There was one battle he couldn't win, his battle with cancer. Although he fought it with determination and tenacity it was too advanced. I encourage everyone to make sure they have their annual physicals with a doctor they can trust. Ask questions, be asertive. Don't always take their silence as a good thing. Daddy's cancer could've been detected much earlier, if the doctor had actually read the results of his PST blood test. His doctor ignored his weight loss and the other signs which resulted in advance prostate cancer that mastasized to the bones. We lost him about 8 weeks after diagnosis. If it had been detected in the early stages we could've had him with us another 5 years or more. Both daddy and momma are buried in the Riverside National Cemetery , Riverside, CA in Section 46 Site 516. They were married 56 years. So it is only fitting that they're buried together. Daddy was 19 and momma 15 and a half when the two married. They were pillars in the foundation of our family. It is the tenacity in which they faced their lives challenges that taught me the importance of working on marriage daily. My daddy was a strong determined man who had a heart the size of Texas. Those who knew him, love and miss him dearly. Thank you to all those who sacrifice their lives whether they pay the ultimate price or whose lives are put on hold while they are away fighting on our behalf for the freedoms we now have. |

| Daddy lived in CA most of his life but his heart always belonged to his birth state - Texas! I felt it appropriate to place this graphic on the memorial page because daddy had a pair of cowboy boots identical to those in this graphic. He always said there was nothing more comfortable than a good pair of cowboy boots. He was a cowboy at heart. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
