A TRIBUTE TO SOEUR SOURIRE
Soeur Sourire - or The Singing Nun as she was called in the States - made one hit "Dominique". In 1963 "Dominique" climbed the charts in the States and became a number one hit.
What seemed to have begun as a fairytale, tragically ended in 1985 when Jeanne Deckers - which was her real name - together with her friend Annie Pecher - committed suicide after a life of struggle and misery.

The photos you see on these following pages are picked from my own private collection and from my friend's in San Francisco, the late Johnny D'Hondt.

My friend in Kansas, Deb Chadwick, is doing more research on the life of Jeanne Deckers. You can go to her website by clicking the following link:

In 1966 Soeur Sourire left the convent. She didn't know that the convent never paid any taxes on the royalties she herself had never received.
January 1964. One big idyl: the Sisters of Fichermont were proud of their singing Sister.
October 1966. "Luc Dominique's" - as her new artist's name would be - first press-conference.
