Journal entry for March 17, 2001

On this day my children and I volunteered at Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth, MA for their Spring Clean-up Day.  When we got to the period area we moved firewood to some of the different homes.  The children did tire of this after a while so after lunch we helped out by unloading some of the things that they store over the winter as well as other odd jobs.  We all had a good time.  It was fun to meet and talk to some of the people when they weren't being a pilgrim.

Entry for March 24, 2001

We went to Boston with some friends to go on the Old Town Trolley Tour and see the Boston Tea Party Ship (
click here to see some pics!).  We also stopped off and did the tour of the USS Constitution.

My children and I had been to see the USS Costitution before but our friends hadn't.  I have found that each different tour guide has a little bit different information, especially when you consider the different questions that they get asked.

The Old Town Trolley Tour took us around many parts of Boston.  We learned some new things about Boston and its history.  The tour guides try to keep everyone entertained with different tidbits of the city.

On the Boston Tea Party Ship and Museum we learned some of the history of that pre-Revolutionary event.  We were able to pretend to dress as Mohawks and throw tea overboard.  The ship that is there is the Beaver II, a new ship modeled after the original.  There was lots of information in the museum about that time period.

Today we did some food things.  My son (age 6) had a recipe in his Science workbook for making edible birds nests so we each made one.  My daughter (age 10) wanted to pull out her Easy Bake Oven.  So they each did a food project today.

We went to Plimoth Plantation again today.  There was a talk called 'Arms and Armor in 17th-century Plymouth' that we went to see.  We learned about some of the reasons that they chose that area to settle in may have been (defense) and about the muskets and some other weapons that were available.   As part of the talk we also saw some of the armor that could have been used during that time period.  Later one of the reinactors shot a musket in the "common area."   It was very informative.

As the year comes to a close I realized that I have been so busy that I neglected my website.  Some of the neat things we have done this year include some science experiments on
electricity, a trip to the Davis' Maze, and we have started to do projects on the different United States.  We had other experiences that may get added later, if I ever get the time... I would rather continue to add new things, then dig up the past ones.  Best of luck to all for the year 2002!
Our thoughts go out to all those affected by the events of September 11, 2001

Kiaya and I volunteered again for the spring clean-up at the Plimoth Plantation.  We had a nice and productive day, but boy, was it cold!
November 18, 2001
We went out to the beach and saw a dazzling display of meteors.  Although I was unable to capture any on film... there are some pictures off the field trip page or by clicking on this text box.

October 16, 2002
We went to the Ringling Brother's and Barnum and Bailey Circus.  One of us was brave enough to be a clown.
December 8-22, 2002
We drove to Texas to visit some friends before the holidays.  On the way down we drove by the Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Center and the nation's tree outside the White House.  We didn't stop at either place because of the cold and lack of parking.  Maybe another year...
Other then visiting our friends we also got to see the Alamo in San Antonio.  There is so much history around this wonderful country of ours...    (I hope to add pictures in the next few days.)
