We are unable to determine whether it is George Knox born 1st January 1833, brother of William Knox or George Knox (Snr) born 1779 Co.Down, Ireland, father of both. Taken at ' Harold Climo ' Photographic Studios, 85 Germain Street, Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. Sadly this studio was burnt down in c.1985 so there are no records. George Knox (Snr) was a ship's carpentar and died 8th May 1846 Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. His son, George Knox (Jnr) was a caulker and in charge of boats in 1889-1899 living at Lily Lake House, and in 1907 George Knox lived with his grandson Harley Knox at 109 Mount Pleasant Ave, not far from Lily Lake, in Millidgeville in Saint John,NB, Canada. In 1864, George Knox (jnr) lived in Cleveland,USA, his occupation was listed as ' Saloon Weddell House '. In 1867-1869 he was a caulker. A labourer in 1870 and a porter in 1871. Saint John Daily Telegraph - 25th August 1911: ' The death of George Knox occured yesterday in the General Public Hospital in his 77th year. Mr Knox was for many years in charge of boats on Lily Lake but for the last two or three years resided with his grandson Harley A Knox, Millidgeville. Mr Knox was seized with a stroke of paralysis on Friday night last and Wednesday was taken to hospital in hopes of improvement but he passed away yesterday. He is survived by three daughters all in the States. Funeral will take place Saturday at 2:30 from Millidgeville.' |
