Free

The night is a giant and the roads are endless
Because I am free
No strings tie me to my home and I am
Carefree as a tumbleweed-
Free to be blown to any corner of the earth
Because no roots means no responsibilities

But there is a part of all of us
That craves bondage
Because the ties that enslave us
Are our anchors

When I was young I slashed the cords that bound me
To my past
To my present
And danced away in search of my future
Looking for ribbons and rainbows
But finding only ruin

I revel in my freedom as I survey the vastness
Of my new world
Then crawl into a corner and cry
While my eyes cast about for a man
With a length of rope
