"Band O' The Moment"
GOOD CHARLOTTE
I just stumbled across these guys a few months ago when I found their first album at a used CD shop for only $3.99.  What a bargain!  Good Charlotte is one of the greatest bands I've heard in a long time.  They've got a punk-rocky sound (which I adore) and wonderful lyrics (which is a MUST for me).  And besides all that, they hail from Waldorf and La Plata, a couple of small Maryland towns only minutes from where my mom and aunt grew up.  I just think that's cool.

Benji and Joel, the twin frontmen of the group, are currently hosting a show on MTV called "All Things Rock," which, in my humble opinion, is the best hour of music that I've seen on that station in a
long time.  Good for them.

So anyways, check out these guys.  They kick butt.  I promise.
JOHN MAYER
Yeah yeah...I know.  Everyone knows who this guy is now that MTV and pop radio stations have started playing his first single, "No Such Thing."  But John is way more than a one-hit wonder.  His entire first album, "Room For Squares" is absolutely incredible.  (Oh, and the science nerd in me gives him major points for the periodic table on the CD itself.)  Here's a guy with a great voice and a serious songwriting gift.  His lyrics are deep and funny all at once.  Even the least catchy song on the album, "City Love," has such awesome words that I still listen to it.

And even if you're already sold on "Room For Squares," check out some of his earlier stuff.  His demo CD, "Inside Wants Out," isn't readily avaliable right now, though rumors suggest that it will be re-released this fall.  But most of those tracks, and several other live performances and covers can be found on Morpheus, Kazaa and other P2P programs.  John was once quoted as saying, "You can burn a CD, but you can't burn a t-shirt."  So go download this stuff and check it out.  It's totally worth it.
