While the hardest truth we try to avoid, is the fact that when illness or mis-fortune happens and we can no longer work, we are faced with lossing everything we have worked so hard for up to that point. Well, I am speaking from my own experience as it happened to me. Due to an auto accident and operations attempting to return my health to a fraction of what I once had, I faced the facts of how we all fail to properly prepare for situations in which we ALL will someday face. After paying insurance, doctor and hospital costs, how are you going to live each and every day? The bare minimums to live an extremely simple and conservative life is at least $1,100 per month. The adverage Social Security or Disability Insurance income is approximately $700 to $900 per month which means you are already in the hole every month and then there are now required monthly medigap insurance cost and co-pays you must pay that basically amounts to that money given to you in the right hand and taken immediately back out of the left hand. It takes about 3 years or more to get any benefits whatsoever. State Disability only pays for 6 months if the state you live in even has it. And unless you have a pre-setup a secondary income source, you will see your savings used up before you can get any help or for these kinds of benefits take effect. Public assistance is approximately $210 per month for a single person with no dependants and $141 in food stamps
"if you qualify" -- primarily meaning ...already spent down everything you ever worked for. The hard truth is most people will at some time face an income crisis due to an extended illness, accident or injury.
