The one thing that both Emily and I wanted to do in London that we never got around to was a visit to Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. It's one of those places that everyone seems to go to when they are in London. And, since we had so many days left on our train passes we decided we would just pop down for the day and see what we could do about rectifying that little omission on our itinary.
When we arrived at Paddington Station in London we just nonchalauntly made our way down the escalator to the underground station checked to see what line the Baker Street Station was on and without even a gulp or a nervous twinge bought out ticket and made our way down to the platform. Emily and I have turned into seasoned travelers by now. Or at least we liked to think we have.
The only way to describe Madame Tussaud's is to call it a mob scene. We were right to assume that everyone seems to go there because today, everyone went. I played up my bad knee and got us into the handicapped entrance or heaven only knows how long we would have been in that blasted line. Once inside it was wall to wall people, and some of them were downright rude, others rather smelly. Overall it wasn't an experience either of us would like to repeat.
Since we had gone to such great lengths to get there we made the best of it we could. The one thing that was fun was a ride in a miniaturised London taxi cab through London's past history from the time of the first Queen Elizabeth bringing you right up to date in today's London. That was pretty cool.
Leaving we did the reverse trip in the underground and arrived back at Paddington station with some time to wander around before our train back to W-S-M. We decided that we were glad that we had come, glad we had seen Madame Tussaud's, and relieved that now that we had we would never have to do it again.
My Side of the Story
by Emily Ferrill
Grams and I got up and went to London. Got off the train and went to a souvenir shop and got Kathy the Underground shirt that she wanted for Dan. Then we got into the queue for Madam Tussaud's. The line was forever long, but Grams got us in quickly.
Madam Tussaud's is supposed to be the best wax museum in the world. We got in there and it was..not. The figures looked fake, they were all shiny and stuff. Most of them you couldn't tell who they were. The place was loud, crowded, and there were way too many Europeans. Europeans are such rude people. I do not recommend Madam Tussauds to anyone, unless you just are in love with noise, crowds and rude people. Enjoyed it in a kind of mastocistic (sp?) kind of way. . I think it should be divided up where on certain days only Brits, Austrailians, Canadians and Americans can come in and let the smelly, rude, pushy Europeans have a couple of days and then the Asians and middle eastern folks have their own day. Here states the travel weary, cranky, bigot this morning. Sorry about that. But even while I was miserable, I was enjoying it. Picked up a shirt for Kathy so I will be putting that in the mail as soon as I get home.
Anyway we went back to the shop where we got Dan's shirt and I got a different kind of underground shirt. Then we went back to the train station and ate lunch. I got a Ronan Keating CD. We then got back on the train and headed back to Weston Super Mare. Planned to go to Wales the next day....
