Before any movie can be produced, a Story Board must be
created. You have been assigned to
create a story board for The Odyssey.
A traditional story passed down from one generation to another. They may be interpretations of dreams, natural events, history, people, etc. that are explained in more human terms that may apply to society.
Anytime a character leaves one location and travels to another, it may be a quest.
The components of a quest are as follows:
(1) A destination
(2) A stated reason to go there (why does the character believe he/she needs to travel to this place?)
(3) Obstacles or trials to overcome.
(4) The real reason for the trip, which is always self-knowledge (i.e., what does the character learn about himself/herself?)
The Epic Hero (A Dynamic Character – changes)
(1) The Departure: the hero is called to adventure. He moves from his place of origin to the outer world where the unknown lies.
(2) The Initiation: the hero is tested, as he realizes the faith, order, and adventure to which he has found himself to be a participant.
(3) The Return: the hero arrives home after the journey, often triumphant, utilizing the trials and tribulations encountered during the journey to build a bright, new future.
(1) As you read each section of The Odyssey fill out the chart on the backside of this sheet.
(2) Fold a sheet of white construction paper into eight boxes (follow teacher’s instructions) to create eight frames for a comic strip.
(3) In each of the eight frames of the comic strip draw a significant event from the book (as outlined in the chart on the back) that details Odysseus’ actions as an epic hero.
(4) Under each picture or cartoon, write a caption from the text of the Odyssey that provides additional detail on the scene and put it in quotes.
(5) Following your quote, include the author and line numbers in parentheses (Homer 12-16).
(6) You are encouraged to interact with one another, to share and receive feedback on your plans for your comic strips.
(7) After the story board is drawn, decorate it with colored pencils, markers or other classroom supplies.
*Do your best, you will be using this story board to help you write an paragraph on Odysseus as an Epic Hero.
You will be graded as follows (50 Response to Literature
