Venite In Facinum: A Phantasmagoria Poem
By Selenite
Venite in facinum, venite in facinum;
These words are whispered by the pendulum.
My nightmares have told me this before,
That, in the darkness of the night, my life would be no
more.
Don is watching as the blade hisses to me:
Venite in facinum. Come, o evil entity.
I reflect upon the fate of this house long ago,
Plagued by a demon released by Carno.
One by one, his dead wives sing mournfully
That what happened to them will now happen to me.
Hortencia wails with a mouth choked with soil,
Gardening, her love and her toil.
Victoria slurs her words drunkenly
As I witness the wine bottle smashed into her eye.
Leonora, now gagged, does not speak at all,
But her tears say her neck was broken by her husband,
not a fall.
Regina is silent, a funnel in her throat,
Forced to eat giblets until she completely choked.
But Carno's last wife, Marie, is clearest of the five.
She says my death is hers, that the blade took her life.
Venite in facinum, venite in facinum.
The words are screamed by the pendulum.
I cannot be free,
So I know I must die with the knowledge that Carno's
wives have not lied.
Iubeo te. Set me free. Iubeo te.
(Goodbye Adrienne, you are dead. Long live the evil entity!)
