Adrienne Delaney fled the Carnovasch estate on the day she killed her possessed husband, Don Gordon. She was so devastated and shaken up, she could not think straight. She got into the car and wasted no time leaving the grounds. While driving on the bridge that connected the island to the coast of Massachusetts, Adrienne jerked the wheel and smashed through the wooden railing. Her car plunged into the Atlantic Ocean. This was it, she thought. She had nothing to look forward to any more, and this was one solution to that.

Adrienne woke up a while later. She had no idea how much time had actually passed. She expected to open her eyes and see the light. A light was what she saw, but it wasn't The Light. It was a bright hospital room. She was not dead. Adrienne started to move, but a sharp pain went across her head. Her head was all bandaged up. Apparently, she had hit her head on the windshield during the impact, when she slammed into the guard rail. There were doctors and nurses standing all around her. Her vision was blurred. She then realized she was seeing double, and there was only one doctor and one nurse.

"Ms. Delaney?" asked a soft woman's voice.

Adrienne focused on a small, dark complected, gentle looking woman, about in her forties. She tried to lift her head up, but the pain overcame her.

"Easy now, easy", said the woman.

"What happened?" asked Adrienne.

"You are very lucky. Some fishermen witnessed you driving off the bridge and were able to call for help. You have a very severe concussion, but if you take it easy, you'll be all right", said the woman.

Adrienne began to cry. "I wanted to die. Why did you have to save me?" she sobbed.

"That's our job. Now, we are going to have to keep you here for a while."

Adrienne just laid on the bed, very still, crying. Her head was pounding, and her body felt numb.

"We're going to give you some more pain killers and a tranquilizer to help you relax", said the woman.

Adrienne was soon injected with a drug in her arm. The room felt like it was spinning and then complete darkness. She was out like a light. She had hoped maybe she would never wake up.

September 6, 1995

Marie was not yet two months old. She usually woke up at about 3 in the morning. Adrienne always rushed to her and nursed her until she fell asleep. Adrienne loved her baby, but she was starting to get worn out. She hardly got a full night's sleep since Marie was born.

Marie woke up at about 3 in the morning as usual. Don Gordon was just a spirit but he wanted so badly to help Adrienne. He walked up to crib and said to his daughter, "Hey now! Don't cry. I'll be here for you".

Marie stopped crying. Don smiled. He began to wonder if Marie could see or hear him. "We don't want to wake your mother up. She needs a good night's sleep. You don't want her be all cranky in the morning, do you?" said Don. Marie smiled. Don tried to touch her, but his hand just went right through her. "Can you see me? Can you hear me? I wish I could know", said Don.

Adrienne woke up for a split second. "Funny, I thought I heard Marie crying", she said to herself. Adrienne sat up, but everything was quiet. "Maybe I just dreamed it. I should go back to sleep. She'll wake up sooner or later", Adrienne said as she laid back down to sleep.

Don looked down at his little girl. Marie was reacting to his voice. Don suspected she could sense his presence. "Are you calm because you know your daddy is here? I will stay with you all night. You don't have to worry about anything", said Don. Don felt very sad. He wished he could pick Marie up and cradle her in his arms. He and Adrienne had a beautiful child together, and he could never be there for either one of them. He never blamed Adrienne for what happened. If Adrienne hadn't of done what she did, she would be dead, and Marie wouldn't have a chance at life. Who knows what other destruction Don would have caused, still being possessed by the demon. Don leaned forward and gave Marie a little kiss on the forehead. Marie smiled and looked up at her father. "You can see me, can't you?" asked Don, who was smiling. "Go to sleep now, sweetheart. I love you. I want you to always know that", said Don. Don faded away. Marie went back to sleep.

The next morning, Adrienne woke up again at about 8 am. She was surprised that Marie hadn't woke her up at all. She got up to see if she was all right. She went into the nursery and saw her little girl sleeping soundly. "I am so proud of you, Marie. You slept through the night", said Adrienne.

Adrienne looked up and noticed the rocking chair was slightly moving, like somebody had been in it. Adrienne got a strange feeling. "Don? Is that you?" asked Adrienne. Adrienne walked over to chair. There was no wind that could have moved it. She looked around, but noticed nothing suspicious.

"Don? If you're here, could you show yourself?" asked Adrienne out loud.

Adrienne's mother, Ellen Marie, walked in. "Adrienne, what are you doing?" asked Ellen Marie.

"I don't know. I just got this strange feeling that Don was just here", said Adrienne.

"Adrienne, Don is dead. I don't think he could be here", said Ellen Marie.

Adrienne snapped back, "You don't think I know that already. If anybody believes in ghosts, I sure do!"

"I'm sorry, Adrienne. I shouldn't have said that", said Ellen Marie.

Marie woke up crying. Apparently, Adrienne had startled her.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, Marie", said Adrienne, as she walked over to the crib and lifted Marie into her arms. "I can't believe you slept through the night. Mommy is so proud of you", said Adrienne to her baby.

Marie still wouldn't stop crying. Adrienne walked around the room cradling her daughter.
"You must be hungry. You usually are fed in the middle of the night", said Adrienne.

"Adrienne, I'll be downstairs making breakfast. You can come down when you ready", said Ellen Marie.

"Okay, Mom. Thanks", said Adrienne, as her mother left the room.

Adrienne sat down in the rocking chair and unbuttoned her night gown. Marie quieted down when she began nursing. Adrienne still couldn't shake the feeling she and Marie weren't the only ones in the room. She could sense Don's presence in the room.

"Don, if you're here, I want you to know I love you very much. I hope you forgive me for what I did. You mean so much to me and Marie. I wish you could be here for Marie. You would be so proud of her", said Adrienne.

Don was standing across the room watching his wife nurse their child. He smiled and said to Adrienne, "Adrienne, I love you very much. I forgive you. You had to do what you had to do. Otherwise, our child would cease to exist. We have a beautiful baby girl together. I know you'll take good care of her and love her very much."

Adrienne couldn't hear Don, but she somehow knew he forgave her and loved her very much. She looked at Marie, smiled, and kissed her on the forehead. "I think your daddy is watching out for you", said Adrienne to Marie.

Marie stopped nursing. Adrienne lifted her up onto her shoulder. Marie just went right back to sleep. Adrienne got up and carried Marie over to her crib. She placed her sleeping daughter in the crib and kissed her cheek. "Grandma and I are going to go eat breakfast. You sleep tight, sweetheart", said Adrienne as she smiled down at Marie.

Adrienne walked over to the doorway and turned around to face the nursery. She could still feel Don's presence in the room. She felt good knowing that maybe Don was watching over his daughter. She smiled, turned around, and left the room.

Don walked over to the crib and said to Marie, "I'm going to let you sleep. I will be around though. Be good for your mother, sweetheart. Remember, Daddy loves you". Don faded away. He wondered if Marie knew he was in the room. Adrienne definitely sensed him. He wanted Marie to know he knew she existed and he loved her very much.
