King's Quest I: Quest For The Crown was first released in 1984, then later a remake was developed in 1990. It's graphics were very basic by today's standards, but then they were considered very advanced, being the first game to use 3D graphics, forcing your character to go AROUND objects instead of just seeing pictures. It also introduced the world to the puzzles and problems that we have come to expect from Roberta Williams today.

The plot of KQ1 is simple. The three treasures of Daventry, (the Magic Mirror, The Shield Of Invincibility and the Bottomless Chest Of Gold,) had slowly been taken from Daventry and without them Daventry and it's King, Edward, were dwindeling on the edge of defeat. Having no children to look to, King Edward calls his best knight, Sir Graham to his side and asks him to retreive the treasures for him, if he does so, his prize will be the throne of Daventry.

After regaining these treasures for the King, Sir Graham returns to the castle to find King Edward on the brink of death. The old King dies and bestows the crown on the knight Graham.
